Spoiler! (Hack details within). The script of a soon-to-be aired episode of Game of Thrones, as well as additional video content and terabytes of other information, was stolen from HBO in the past few weeks.
The network scrambled to recover the stolen information and to mitigate the extortion attempts of their hackers, with HBO Chairman & CEO Richard Plepler calling his remediation team’s efforts “Herculean.” The network boss also offered some frank commentary on the state of our connected planet, telling reporters that, “the problem before us is unfortunately all too familiar in the world we now find ourselves a part of.” Surely Plepler himself, as well as head honchos at entertainment giants like Netflix and Disney, must be eager for a paradigm shift in the security world.
